Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre Set to Hold Auditions for its Regional Theatre Premier Production of "The Wedding Singer"

Frederick, MD- Way Off Broadway, the Frederick area's only year-round professional dinner theatre, has brought many firsts to theater-goers. From Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl - The Musical to Jerry Herman's La Cage aux Folles, Way Off Broadway is proud to be able to bring new shows to the stage in Western Maryland and the National-Capital Region. This spring brings another exciting first for the theater. In an arrangement with Music Theatre International, the New York-based theatrical licensing company, the Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre will be one of the first theaters in the country, the first in the region, to produce a production of the musical comedy The Wedding Singer.
Hot from Broadway and its national tour, The Wedding Singer, based on the Adam Sandler movie of the same name, is coming to Frederick as a part of the Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's 2009 Season - the theater's 15th Anniversary Season. In the show, it's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party - until his own fianc«e leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding he plays as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a brand new score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980's, The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer just might be the coolest guy in the room.
Auditions for Way Off Broadway's production of The Wedding Singer will be held on Monday, December 15th at the theatre beginning at 7:30pm. No appointments are necessary.
Those auditioning should be at least 18 years old, have a headshot and resume, as well as, 16 bars of prepared music, and be ready to sing, read from the script, and dance.
Way Off Broadway's regional theatre premier production of The Wedding Singer will be directed by Bill Kiska with choreography by Amanda Parker and musical direction by Eric Seebach. The show will run March 27 - June 6, 2009, with performances every Friday and Saturday evening, matinees on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday of each month, and evening performances on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.
The Wedding Singer follows WOB's 2009 Season-opener, Evita, and is followed by Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic Cats, Mel Brooks' The Producer, and Another Radio Christmas.
