It's Only Ink! Postcards from Washington D.C.: Traveling with Anna

It's Only Ink!
Postcards from Washington D.C.: Traveling with Anna

Written by a remedial teacher from Sleepy Hollow, IL, "Postcards from Washington D.C.: Traveling with Anna" was a pleasure to read. Author Laura Crawford gives facts about D.C. that elementary school-aged children are currently learning.
Other than the "postcards" the text facts are in both English and Spanish. Because the fictional postcards are written from a child's point of view, readers will enjoy her humorous observations about what she sees.
"Traveling with Anna" is a series of books from the publisher Raven Tree Press and involves the views from one young girl named Anna who sends postcards to friends and family from select US cities. This book is jam-packed with information and entertaining tid-bits of historical locations.
Anna is drawn as a cartoon, but the photographs (postcards) are real snapshots. Each of these photographs give the reader a glimpse into what each visited location has to offer.
Some of the phrases are slightly adultish, but for the most part, the writing is right on for the age group the book is intended for.
"Postcards from Washington D.C.: Traveling with Anna" would work wonderfully in a classroom setting, and could easily be incorporated into teacher lesson plans. Advanced readers would enjoy reading this adorable book alone, while beginning readers may have an issue with some of the wording.
This reviewer and her ten-year-old daughter, Jordan, enjoyed Crawford's book and highly recommends it to others.
With the growing number of Spanish speaking households in the United States,
Raven Tree Press recognizes the need for high quality reading materials in a variety of bilingual and wordless formats. By presenting English and Spanish in the same book we believe speakers of both languages learn faster. It also allows multicultural awareness, language development and a learning process important to our global community.
