This children's picture book is the newest addition to Sleeping Bear Press' popular Discover America State by State series. Each title begins with a letter of the alphabet and represents a person, place, or object specific to the state or region.
This reviewer was given the opportunity to read "N is for Our Nation's Capital: A Washington, DC Alphabet" by husband and wife team, Marie and Roland Smith.
Within its colorful and delightful pages (drawn in full-color by Barbara Leonard Gibson) is simple poems with sidebars that delve deeper into the facts. Because of this set-up, "N is for Our Nation's Capital: A Washington, DC Alphabet" is perfect for younger readers and older readers.
Marie and Roland Smith's book introduces children to the Theodore Roosevelt statue, Kahlil Gibran, jazz player Edward Kennedy Ellington, and many more greats located in our nation's capital. They will learn about the Powhatan people on the Potomac shore and find out what a speech called "I Have a Dream" h as to do with Washington and our nation.
