"Taste of the Arts" Brings Music, Art & Kids' Activities to Main Street

Chambersburg, PA: Chambersburg's Downtown Business Council partners with the Council for the Arts to present the 3rd annual "Taste of the Arts" on Friday May 7th from 5-8pm. "Taste of the Arts" begins the year's series of First Friday art walks in downtown Chambersburg, offering live music, food and wine tastings, activities for kids, and regional artists displaying and selling their work.
Artists from throughout the area will display pottery, paintings, prints and photographs, as well as glass and fiber art, and jewelry along Chambersburg's tree-lined Main Street. Historic Preservation Services, 252 East King Street, will feature art by painter Trevor Foltz of Shippensburg and photographer Jeremy Wolf of Chambersburg.
New to this year's Taste of the Arts will be a connection with the next day's Cinco de Mayo events, featuring Hispanic music and restaurant specials in downtown Chambersburg. Accomplished salsa instructor Dr. Jose Ricardo of Shippensburg University will teach and perform dances from his native country of Colombia as part of the First Friday kick-off to Cinco de Mayo.
Children's activities will include face painting by Miss Penelope, chalk art and a seasonal craft. A highlight of the evening will be the announcement of the annual Ice Cream Sundae Contest, where kids in grades K-5 compete to design their dream sundae, and the winner samples the scrumptious creation at Taste of the Arts!
Also new to the 2010 Taste of the Arts will be a follow-up Cinco de Mayo Dance starting at 8pm at the Capitol Theatre's Wood Center, with beer and margarita refreshments for participants! A $5.00 cover will be charged for the "DJ & Dancing" event.
Artists interested in participating in First Friday's should call Anne Finucane at 717-267-1396. For more information about First Friday events, call Tina Flohr at 261-0072.
