"Mozart's Magnificent Voyage"
The Maryland Symphony Orchestra Partners With Famed Children's Touring Company for Annual Family Concert: "Mozart's Magnificent Voyage"
Hagerstown, MD: The Maryland Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with the renowned theatrical touring company Classical Kids Live!, will present it's annual Family Concert on Sunday, March 1, 4pm at the historic Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.
This year's theatrical concert is "Mozart's Magnificent Voyage" and is designed to introduce children to the life and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This critically acclaimed production features professional actors performing a story that is underscored by the Maryland Symphony Orchestra playing 23 excerpts of Mozart's best-loved works.
"Voyage" features Mozart's young son Karl, who longs to be taken from his boarding school to spend more time with his famous father. An old traveling trunk serves as a magic chest that reveals an incredible journey back in time to Mozart's childhood. Along the way, Karl comes to understand Mozart's extraordinary life as a traveling prodigy, his pressures from family and fame, his passion for composing and the common bonds they both share.
Classical Kids has created a whole new generation of classical music fans through its live symphony concert and theatrical adaptations of such award-winning videos and recordings as Beethoven Lives Upstairs, Tchaikovsky Discovers America and Vivaldi's Ring of Mystery. Each story entails its own adventure featuring a unique combination of music, history and theatricality to engage the imaginations of children. The Classical Kids symphony concert series continues to garner critical and commercial acclaim throughout North America and abroad as the best way to introduce children (and adults) to the lives and musical masterpieces of the great classical composers. With more than 500 engagements, the series has reached over 1 million children and their families.
Don't miss what Billboard magazine calls "one of the most completely wondrous examples of children's entertainment ever." A dramatic story, a little bit of history and some of the world's best loved classical music set the scene for fun-filled musical adventures the whole family will enjoy.
Tickets for the concert are $22 for adults, $18 for students and $12 for children, 12 years of age and younger. They may be purchased online at www.marylandsymphony.org or by calling the MSO box office at 301-797-4000.
