Wisdom From a Furry Friend: Two Cloud

Wisdom From a Furry Friend
Two Cloud

Happy Holidays from all of us at the Humane Society of Washington County.
'Tis the season to share love and joy and that extends to our pets, too. My name is Two Cloud and I am waiting to go to my new home this holiday. I am a beautiful young female cat of about 3 years of age. I came to the shelter with a beautiful litter of seven kittens and I was a great mommy.
I was in foster care while I was raising my kittens. It was a wonderful place with dogs and other adult cats, so I am very well socialized with people and other kinds of four legged pets. Now my kittens are going home and I am looking for my new family. So far, no one has come in to take me home but I am still hopeful.
At this time of the year people need to be especially careful with their pets because of all the new things that are being introduced into our surroundings. Please be careful of foods that may not be good for us. Remember to never give us table scraps because those are foods we are not accustomed to. They could lead to stomach distress and other problems. Be aware of holiday plants that are toxic to pets. To find out what kinds of plants foods and other household items are potentially dangerous to pets visit the Humane Society of Washington County's website at www.hswcmd.org. There is a link to a full list of troublesome items.
Keep in mind there are other things that can cause problems for pets. Christmas tree balls and ornaments can shatter and or get stuck in our throats and tinsel can be especially troublesome. Candles are beautiful and smell wonderful but they can be very dangerous. They can burn us and can also start a fire in your house. So be sure to put them where they can't harm anyone and blow them out when you leave the room.
Remember to always keep fresh water available for us. Water freezes when it is outside and then we can't get the refreshment we need. There are watering devises you can purchase to make sure our water doesn't freeze but the best thing to do is to keep us inside the house where it is nice and warm and safe. For helpful hints on how to keep your pets safe from household dangers and the weather, visit www.hswcmd.org. There are a number of interesting and informative articles to help you keep your pets safe.
So, remember your pets this holiday. They love stockings just like you do. Each time a pet is adopted from the Humane Society of Washington County this holiday they go home with their own stocking filled with wonderful goodies. I would love my own stocking so won't you come visit me and maybe you will adopt me and take me and my stocking home this holiday.

The Humane Society of Washington County is located at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown www.hswcmd.org. Ph: 301-733-2060. Fax: 301-733-0248.
