County Students Participate in Sixth Annual We the People Competition

Hagerstown, MD (December 8, 2008)- Students from Washington County Public Schools and St. Maria Goretti High School will participate in the sixth annual We the People competition on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, in the classroom building at Hagerstown Community College. The competition, which is a simulated congressional hearing, will begin at 9am and close after a presentation of awards at 1pm.
Since its creation in 1987, more than 28 million students and 90,000 educators have participated in the rigorous We the People course of study. The goal of this innovative program is to promote civic competence among both elementary and secondary students. We the People is supported by numerous community and business organizations as well as members of Congress and the General Assembly.
