Annajean McKnight Retires from County Service
by Norman Bassett
Washington County Maryland Public Information Officer
Annajean (AJ) Bitner McKnight will retire from County service on May 1 after 16 years as the Insurance and Risk Management Administrator for Washington County.
McKnight administered all of the county's property and casualty insurance programs. Under her management insurance programs were successfully maintained and negotiated, and property and casualty insurance was for volunteer Fire and Rescue companies.
County Administrator Rod Shoop commended McKnight for faithful service to local government.
McKnight will be one of 124 employees honored for service to the community at the annual employee appreciation breakfast on May 3.
Human Resources Administrator Dee Hawbaker said that McKnight had over 20 years in the insurance industry when she came to the county 16 years ago.
"Her wealth of knowledge has greatly benefited the county over the years and she leaves her office with a sound insurance program in place.
One of her best qualities was enjoying keeping up to date with current trends by attending local seminars and conferences and staying in close contact with insurance representatives and peers. We will greatly miss her as a co-worker, and wish her the best in her retirement," Hawbaker said.
