Building Homes! Rebuilding Lives! Increase Your Tax Credits!

Building Homes! Rebuilding Lives!
Increase Your Tax Credits!

With the economy as it is today, many people will be trying to find ways to increase their tax credits. Well, here is a suggestion that may help some of you.
Habitat has a nationwide program, Habitat for Humanity's Cars for
Homes(tm), that takes donated cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, RV's and other vehicles and sells them through automobile auctions, recyclers or salvage yards to raise funds that help build simple, decent, affordable homes.
The program generates revenues for local Habitat affiliates by sending 100% of the net proceeds, after expenses, to the local affiliates. All vehicles donated by residents having Washington County zip codes will provide revenues to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County.
Donors can call the Cars for Homes (tm) toll-free number,
1-877-277-4244, or process their car donation online at
www.carsforhomes.org. Donor contact, title and vehicle information is collected and, upon acceptance of the donation, arrangements are made for the vehicle, keys and title to be picked up for processing. The local Habitat affiliate receives the sales proceeds after the towing fees and other expenses are paid. Donors receive an acknowledgement letter for their car donation and can check with the Internal Revenue Service or their tax advisor for information on the tax deductibility of their donation.
"Individuals or businesses can help provide affordable housing by donating their unwanted vehicles or boats to Cars for Homes (tm)," said Sherry Brown Cooper, Executive Director for the local Habitat affiliate.
"It is a hassle-free and easy way to give to Habitat. It is a way to help families in need of affordable housing. Your old car can help build a home."
It's a way you can help us build a house from your computer or telephone. It is also a way to reduce your tax-burden if you make your gift during this calendar year. It is a way to help a family living in substandard homes.
It is hard to imagine families living in substandard conditions here in our community. But it is true! Many live in decaying buildings...rotting floor boards, leaking roofs, no running water, no heat, terrible surroundings and overcrowded conditions. Or they are renting at too high a price, and cannot afford other basic necessities such as heat, nutritious food, or gas to get to work. There is a critical housing problem in Maryland! Affordable housing is needed. This is true of our county, also. Together, you and Habitat, can address this critical problem of crowded, unsafe, inadequate housing for those in need. With the concern and generosity of people like you, together we can make it possible for these families to find new hope. Together we can make home ownership possible, create better neighborhoods, and change the lives of the children in these families.
Habitat for Humanity works on the following principles:
* Homes are primarily funded by contributions of money and in-kind donations of materials, services and land.
* Homes are built primarily with volunteer labor and the "sweat equity" of the approved applicant for home ownership. The applicant's family must contribute 500 hours of labor with Habitat for Humanity before taking title to the home.
* Habitat sells the homes at no profit and offers a zero interest mortgage on the home. Payments from the homeowners are used to build more homes.
If you do not have a car or boat to give, you can always make a cash contribution. Your contribution, in any form or any amount, will help Habitat for Humanity of Washington County to continue its mission.
It is also a way to reduce your tax-burden if you make your gift during this calendar year. Donations may also be given in memory of a loved one, in honor of a joyous event, or as a Christmas, or other gift for that person who truly "has everything."
Every gift you send will make a difference! And for that we thank you! Mail contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County, 20 South Prospect St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
