Remaining Sharpsburg Rescue Horses Find New Home

Remaining Sharpsburg Rescue Horses Find New Home

Hagerstown, MD: On August 18, 2008, six of the seven remaining horses rescued by the Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) from a farm in Sharpsburg Maryland in December 2006, left Maryland to a rescue facility in Texas.
"This was the largest horse rescue in Maryland's history and it took a tremendous amount of effort on the part of the staff and volunteers at the HSWC," stated Susan Fancher, President of the Board of Directors at the HSWC. She added, "We are very appreciative of everything they did as well as the residents of Washington County and across the country for the help they provided for this rescue."
As the horses left the farm Paul Miller, HSWC Executive Director looked on. "This is a bitter sweet moment for us. We rescued and rehabilitated the horses and now we watch as they leave for their new homes after eighteen months with us. " Volunteers Pat Miller and Kelly Thompson smiled as they fought back the tears. "We worked very hard to save these horses and it isn't without a bit of sadness that we see them go to their new homes," said Pat Miller.
The horses are being transported to their new home by Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) staff and volunteers. Brooke Vrany of DEFHR stated, "We were here to help with the rescue when it began and we are now here to transport them to their new homes." She added, "This was a tremendous undertaking and it turned out really well."
The horses arrived at their new homes safely and adoptions have already begun on a number of the horses. One gelding yearling remains for adoption at the HSWC.
