Michael T. Thorsen Hired as New Principal of Barbara Ingram School for the Arts

Hagerstown, MD- Washington County Public Schools welcomes Michael T. Thorsen as the new principal of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts.
Throughout his career, Thorsen has acquired experience teaching, supervising, and administrating arts education program in Pennsylvania. He has extensive experience in community interaction activities, developing and implementing arts curriculum, fundraising, and supervising high school personnel and educational programs. Prior to working for WCPS, Thorsen served as the principal of the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA). During his time with CAPA, he established numerous partnerships with organizations such as the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, the Pittsburgh Opera, Carnegie-Mellon University, and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
"Thorsen not only has the experience needed to lead the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, but he also has a passion for arts education," said Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Instruction Donna Hanlin. "He knows firsthand how an education centered in the arts can inspire students to evolve both academically and artistically. We are very happy to have him on board."
Opening in August 2009, the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts will provide 300 students with an intensive, pre-professional training in the arts within a comprehensive, college preparatory curriculum.
