Hagerstown Student Nathan Scott Hesse Wins Thomas F. O'Brien Award for International Education

(St. Mary's City, MD) May 29, 2008- Nathan Scott Hesse was recently awarded the Thomas F. O'Brien Award for International Education at the annual St. Mary's College of Maryland Awards Convocation.
As the state's only public honors college St. Mary's College is ranked as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, The Princeton Review and Kiplinger's. St. Mary's College of Maryland's 2000 students participate in a program of academic excellence like that of a top private college while maintaining the openness and affordability of public education.
The Thomas F. O'Brien Award for International Education was established in 2001 by President Maggie O'Brien and Jim Grube, in memory of Dr. O'Brien's father.
Hesse, of Hagerstown, Maryland, will be a sophomore majoring in Latin American studies. He is involved in kayaking, piano, the College's Gospel Choir, and the Windsurfing Club. In the future, Hesse hopes to travel to Latin America and southeast Asia. He would like to learn a third language and continue to study Spanish.
