2008 French and Indian War Muster

2008 French and Indian War Muster

Big Pool, MD- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, Fort Frederick State Park will host the annual French and Indian War Muster on May 17 -18, 2008.
The Muster will feature volunteer reenactors who will portray both military and civilian inhabitants from Northamerica during the French and Indian War. The French and Indian War, which was fought between 1756 and 1763, changed the structure of the North American continent forever. The war, which pitched the French and their Indian allies against the English and their Indian allies, brought devastation to the Maryland Frontier. During the Muster, Fort Frederick will come back to life to demonstrate and to relive the toils of both sides as they attempted to secure a permanent outcome of the struggle to control North America.
The volunteer reenactors will exhibit life among the French, British and American Indian cultures that inhabited North America. Daily activities include military musters, artillery presentations, and demonstrations of everyday life during the period.
For a first hand look at 18th century warfare, the public is invited to attend the tactical demonstration both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Food will be available for purchase at the "Tavern on the Potomac", which is operated by the Clear Spring District Historic Association. Captain Wort's Sutlery will have for sale gift and souvenir items, and numerous period sutlers will be selling their wares.
Fort Frederick State Park is the home of Fort Frederick, America's premier stone colonial fort. It was built by the colony of Maryland in 1756 to protect its western boundaries and as a base to attack French claims to the Ohio River valley.
The 2008 Muster activity hours are 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday. There is a service charge for this event. Disabled access is available for this event. However, most of the event activities are situated on grassy areas that may present difficult rolls or walks. Please dress for inclement weather or hot sunny days.
Fort Frederick is located off of Rt 70 exit 12 at State Route 56, Big Pool, MD. For more information about the Muster or other Fort Frederick activities, please call the park at 1-301-842-2155 during the office hours of 9am to 4pm.
