Fit N Fun 4 Kids

What: A healthy eating and physical activity program for overweight children and their parents
Who: Any child from the ages of 8 through 13 who is at the 85th percentile or greater for body weight based on height and age. All children must have a parent or caregiver attend classes with them. Children must be referred by their physician in order to attend this program. Parents can call their child's physician and ask to have their child referred to the program.
Where: Elgin Station Community Center, South Burhans Boulevard and Elgin Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland.
When: Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:30P starting April 8, 2008. The classes will meet once a week for 12 weeks and once a month for and additional 9 months.
Program: Fit N Fun 4 Kids provides information to children and their families about how to eat healthier, make exercise a fun part of their daily schedule, form new, healthy habits, and to feel good about themselves, regardless of size. A team of professionals including a dietitian, a mental health professional, a physical activity instructor, a registered nurse and an educator will provide expertise and teach classes. A family meal will be served and babysitting will be available.

Cost: There is no cost for eligible children and their parents. Screenings for the program will be conducted by the physician's office and some insurance co-payment may apply. This program is funded by a grant from Maryland Physicians Care and is co-sponsored by Washington County Hospital and Washington County Health Department.
