Heritage Craft Center Classes

Complex Yarns- Advanced Spinning
Instructor: Priscilla Blosser-Rainey
Date: Saturday and Sunday, January 19 and 20 (2-day class)
Time: 10am-4pm each day
Fee: $120 plus $15 materials fee
Location: Carpool to Priscilla's farm in Timberville, VA
This is an intermediate or experienced beginner spinning class. Learn to construct two- and three-ply yarns into boucle, Navaho ply, loops, snarl, two-color loops, fleece ply, etc. Students have to bring 2 or 3 bobbins of single-ply yarns to be used to make 2- and 3-ply yarns with different techniques. If you don't have your own wheel, the HCCEP has one you can use during class and rent by the month after class. This class has a maximum of 8 students; a minimum of 5.
Decorative Tin Punched Message Board
Instructor: Karen Cartlidge
Date: Saturday, January 26
Time: 9am-2pm
Fee: $35 plus $15 materials fee
Location: Triple Brick Museum, 313 East John Street, Martinsburg, WV
Learn the traditional art of tin punch and make a decorative punch tin message board for your kitchen or office. Students will complete a decorative panel, including framing, and make theme-related magnets to go on the message board. A variety of patterns will be available. Students must bring: hammer, awl, work gloves, ruler, pencil, bag lunch and drink.
Decorative OneStroke Painting- Glass Painting
Instructor: Joyce Hamilton
Date: Saturday, January 26
Time: 10:30am-1pm
Fee: $17.50 plus $2.50 materials fee
Location: Common Ground, 145 North Queen Street, Martinsburg, WV
Preparation and painting on glass object using a bake-able acrylic paint. Students must bring own glass piece and #6, #8 flat and short liner brushes. You can use clear wine glasses, ice tea glasses, glass plate, trifle/salad bowl, cake plate with cover. Do not use an old piece of glass that you already have; it may contain lead and would break when baked. All other supplies will be provided by the teacher. This is a beginner to intermediate class.
