Maryland State Boychoir to Hold Open Auditions

Maryland State Boychoir to Hold Open Auditions

The Maryland State Boychoir is now accepting applications for auditions. Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 19, and Saturday, February 9. All boys, ages 7-17, who love to sing are encouraged to apply. Previous training or experience is not required. Members of the Boychoir receive outstanding training in voice, as well as musical theory. Additionally, the choir offers boys the chance to sing great music, tour domestically as well as internationally, and to make new friends in a fun and challenging environment.
Now in its 21st concert season, The Maryland State Boychoir serves the State of Maryland as "Official Goodwill Ambassadors." The Boychoir performs over 60 times each year throughout Maryland and surrounding states, and on national and international tours that have taken them to 30 different states in the U.S., Ireland, Wales, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Canada. The choristers have sung at many distinguished venues, including the White House, the National Cathedral in Washington D.C., St. Patrick's Cathedral and Holy Trinity Cathedral in New York City, and the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
Recent Boychoir musical programs have included the Washington D.C. debut of John Rutter's Mass of the Children, and two performances of Howard Shore's Fellowship of the Rings Symphony with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Their annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols concert has sold out three performances for the past four years. Other memorable performances include a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King with the Washington Choral Arts Society at the Kennedy Center, the Eighth Annual Baltimore Boychoir Festival with over 300 participants, a private concert for the Swiss Ambassador, and singing for the Opening Ceremony at the 2005 PGA Presidents' Cup.
The Maryland State Boychoir is dedicated to providing talented boys, regardless of race, religion, or socio-economic background, with a holistic and diverse musical education in the tradition of the great European choir schools. The Boychoir provides a safe environment that nurtures the art of singing among its choristers. Boys in the choir are given opportunities to perform professionally, and a chance to grow socially.
