Wisdom From a Furry Friend: Clarissa

Wisdom From a Furry Friend

Good morning. My name is Clarissa and I am a cat that lives at the Humane Society of Washington County. I was a stray when I came here. That means I didn't have a home and it was sometimes difficult to find food and a warm, safe place to sleep at night. Now I am never hungry and I sleep really well but I would really like to have a nice home to go to that I could call my own forever home.
I am what people call a tortoiseshell, which means I have black and orange in my coat. My hair is long and I am very soft. My eyes are a beautiful shade of amber and I am very sweet. I think I am about 2 years old so I don't act like a silly kitten anymore. No, I like to lounge around and take naps and cuddle.
You know, it is the holiday season and the Humane Society of Washington County has an adoption promotion call Home for the Holidays. Everyone there wants people to come to the shelter and adopt a pet because there are so many nice pets here that would love to become a part of your family. They are even running specials. There is a 2 for 1 Special that means you can adopt two cats for the adoption fee of just one cat. You could take me home and take another cat or kitten along for no additional cost.
They also have a Homes for Seniors special that means if you adopt a cat or dog that is over 5 years of age you will have a reduced adoption fee of just $50. And if you are over 55 years old and you want to adopt a cat or dog that is over 5 years old the adoption fee is only $25. Isn't that great? And to make it even better whenever a pet goes home this holiday they get their own special stocking filled with goodies, treats and coupons.
Lots of people are helping to promote adoptions this holiday. Students from the Washington County Public Schools and Courtney Bowlus and Deann Diehl, two members of the Shawnee Council Girl Scout Troop# 647 have been collecting toys and treats, Longmeadow Animal Hospital ran a full page color advertisement to promote shelter adoptions and local businesses 4-Legged Friends Pet Services and Ponderosa Snips Nails and Puppy Dog Tails are offering specials to new pet owners.
This campaign even has help from nationally known companies such as the Iams Dog and Cat Foods and the Helen Woodward Animal Center, the local chapter of TOPS, Take Pounds Off Sensibly Club, Inc., and the Lenox Distribution Group in Hagerstown.
So this is a great time to come to the Humane Society of Washington County to find a special permanent companion. Come visit all of us and maybe you will fall in love and take one of us home. Maybe you will fall in love with me. That would be a special present for me, too.

The Humane Society of Washington County is located at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown Ph: 301-733-2060. Fax: 301-733-0248.
