Eastern Elementary Students Collect Pennies for Phone Cards for U.S. Troops

Eastern Elementary Students Collect Pennies for Phone Cards for U.S. Troops

Hagerstown, MD (November 27, 2007)- Inspired by three Eastern Elementary School students whose father is stationed in Iraq, students at the school collected pennies during October to buy phone cards for the troops serving in the military in Iraq. Students collected pennies all month on behalf of Rebeka, Rachel, and Rose Pierce, in honor of Sergeant First Class James Pierce, Jr., currently stationed in Iraq. The final count amounted to more $1,200, highlighted by the 5th grade class of Josalyn Moskowitz, which generated $138, the highest figure in the school. Anne Pierce, mother of the Pierce girls and wife of James, provided a special party for the winning class and cupcakes for each class that raised over $50.
