First Annual Wine Auction to Benefit the Shepherdstown Day Care

First Annual Wine Auction to Benefit the Shepherdstown Day Care

Corks will fly at the War Memorial Building in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, on November 10th, at a wine auction to benefit the non-profit Shepherdstown Day Care.
The evening will begin at 7pm with a preview wine tasting and silent auction (tickets to the tasting are $25). At 8pm, the evening's main event - the live auction - will begin with a viewing of the lots (tickets to the live auction are another $25). The evening will conclude with a champagne and dessert wine-tasting.
Both the silent and live auctions will offer wine enthusiasts the opportunity to stock their cellars with an array of wines, from lots of mixed bottles and cases of elegant and affordable "weeknight wines," to groupings and individual bottles of powerful and premier special occasion wines.
The silent auction will feature "weeknight wines" and wine-related items, such as Riedel wineglasses, vineyard tours, and wine dinners.
The live auction offerings will include such items as a 1995 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac, which scored a 96 from the Wine Spectator and a 95 from Robert Parker, and retails in the $350-$450 range. Other live auction lots include a bottle of champagne and a week-long stay in St. Lucia; fine cabernet sauvignons from California; trios of wines from Australia, France, Italy, South America, and South Africa; and a case of individual bottles from Wine Spectator's list of the Top 100 Wines of 2006. Almost every live auction lot will feature wines that scored 90 or more points from the Wine Spectator or Wine Advocate.
Both the silent and live auction lots will be posted on the wine auction web site at Indulge your palate and help a child! This time when you give, you're going to feel really good.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Shepherdstown Day Care, one of a handful of non-profit day cares serving the families of Jefferson and Berkeley Counties: of the more than 70 children that attend the Shepherdstown Day Care: 36 percent come from the Martinsburg area; 41 percent come from Shepherdstown; and 23 percent come from Charles Town, Ranson, and Harper's Ferry.
The Shepherdstown Day Care is also the region's only day care which charges tuition according to a sliding scale tied to family income level, enabling families that want to work or further their education to pursue their dreams. The Wine Auction will help the Day Care raise the funds needed to offset the difference in cost between what a family is charged and the actual cost of day care. It will also assist the Day Care to pursue a renovation and expansion program designed to provide the best possible environment for children to grow and learn.
Tickets for the preview wine tasting and the live auction are available at D'Accord Boutique, The German Street Coffee & Candlery, Grapes & Grains Gourmet, and the Sweet Shop (all in Shepherdstown), and at Albert & Arnold's Wine & Cheese in Charles Town. For more information or to order tickets by telephone, visit the auction website at, or contact Donn Marshall at 304-264-0787.
