Dog Adoption Kennels Reopen at The Humane Society of Washington County

Dog Adoption Kennels Reopen at The Humane Society of Washington County

The Humane Society of Washington County reopened their dog adoption kennels on Thursday, September 20. The kennels have been closed since August 31, 2007 due to an outbreak of canine Parvovirus.
"We have not had a case of Parvo since September 5," stated Paul Miller, executive director.
The dogs have been confined to their kennels to reduce the potential for spreading the disease, which is found in the fecal matter of dogs. The dogs at the shelter were infected by a dog that was brought into the kennels. "This is a preventable disease," said Mr. Miller. "Dog owners need to inoculate their dogs and keep them up to date on all vaccines to protect their own dogs and other dogs in the community from Parvovirus and other potentially deadly diseases.
