Forget-Me-Not Flower Sales Campaign to Being in Western Maryland

Forget-Me-Not Flower Sales Campaign to Being in Western Maryland

Local organizations and businesses are invited to sign up early for the Alzheimer's Associations' Forget-Me-Not flower sales campaign that will be conducted this summer to support the Association's Historic Frederick Memory Walk set for Sunday, September 30 in downtown Frederick. The Memory Walk is the Alzheimer's Association's annual trademark fundraising event to help those battling Alzheimer's disease. Memory Walk is held in more than 600 communities across the country and attracts a wide audience of individuals, families, caregivers, corporations and community leaders. In 2006, Memory Walk raised over $30 million nationally to support the 5.1 Americans living with Alzheimer's disease.
This year, the Greater Maryland Chapter's Memory Walks will be held at six locations throughout the months of September and October. The Walk sites are Towson, Havre de Grace, Ellicott City, Salisbury, Frederick, and Cumberland. Last year, Memory Walk in Maryland raised $440,000 because of the support of corporate sponsorships, walk teams, individual walks and paper Forget-Me-Not flower sales. This year, the Chapter's goal is to raise $550,000.
Each year, thousands of Forget-Me-Not flowers are sold in local stores and banks across the country. Tellers and cashiers sell the flowers to customers for $1 per flower at the point of purchase and then display all of the flowers to create a community-driven visual display. The Forget-Me-Not program is designed to raise funds as well as build awareness of Memory Walk and the resources available to the millions affected by Alzheimer's disease. It is a great way for businesses and the community to engage in this important mission.
Forget-Me-Not sales typically take place throughout the summer leading up to the October Memory Walk's. The Association will provide as many Forget-Me-Not paper flowers as needed, as well as, additional promotional materials to make the program a success. Chapter staff will also attend any meetings to provide training to participants. At the end of the campaign, participating businesses and organizations submit the proceeds to the Alzheimer's Association's in Frederick. Appropriate recognition will be given.
