Suns Raise Over $3,700 for Minor League Baseball Employee's Family

Suns Raise Over $3,700 for Minor League Baseball Employee's Family
100% of the Money Will be Donated to "Rai Henniger Family Fund"

(Hagerstown, MD) - On Sunday, June 17th the Hagerstown Suns held a memorabilia auction in support of the "Rai Henniger Family Fund." Rai Henniger, Senior V.P. of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, suffered traumatic injuries earlier this season during pre-game setup of a fireworks display. He is currently being treated for major facial and head injuries at the Denver Health Medical Center. Henniger is a husband and father of three children ages ten, seven and five.
The Suns donated many items for the auction including a ballpark picnic outing, first-pitch package, game-used uniforms, collectible stadium signage and autographed baseballs. The Suns also received donated items from Suns fans including autographed items by Stan Musial, Nolan Ryan, Frank Howard and Jim Palmer. August Publications donated four copies of "The Complete Guide to Big League Ballparks."
The Roger Clemens Foundation donated an autographed baseball and 8" x 10" photo of Roger Clemens. Suns General Manager, Will Smith, donated a Whitey Ford autographed photo, a Gaylord Perry autographed baseball as well as a Cal Ripken rookie card and a game-used Rafael Furcal Louisville Slugger. The Washington Nationals donated a 2007 team autographed baseball and the item that generated the most money - a four pack of Diamond Club seats which sold for $360.00.
The Suns also collected cash as part of the total donation. Twenty-five items were won at the auction and a total of $2319.00 was raised for the family. All money will be donated to the "Rai Henniger Family Fund."
Fireworks are a popular attraction and annually rank as the top promotion at Minor League parks across the country. The Suns 2007 promotional schedule features fourteen fireworks shows. Rai Henniger is licensed to setup and shoot professional fireworks. "We see this as our responsibility to help however we can. I am moved by Mr. Henniger's situation and hope other Minor League teams will provide additional support for his family. We wish him all the best during his recovery," said Suns General Manager Will Smith.
Anyone interested in sending cards, with or without checks, can send them directly to the Sky Sox offices at:
The Henniger Family
c/o Sky Sox

All cards received will be posted in Rai Henniger's room during his stay at the health center.
