Three Hagerstown Suns Named to South Atlantic League All-Star Team

The President of the South Atlantic League (S.A.L.), John Henry Moss, has announced the rosters for the 2007 S.A.L. All-Star game. Suns players Chris Marrero, Mike Daniel and Cory VanAllen were named to the North Division team. The 48th Annual S.A.L. All-Star game is scheduled to be played on June 19, 2007 at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, GA.
Outfielder Chris Marrero, the Washington Nationals' top pick (15th overall) in the 2006 First-Year-Player Draft was chosen as an all-star in his first full season in professional baseball. Entering Tuesday's game, Marrero, 18, is hitting .305 and ranks among South Atlantic League leaders in home runs (T-2nd, 12) and RBI (2nd, 48). Marrero had a torrid May in which he led the league with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. Marrero was named the South Atlantic League Offensive Player of the Week for May 14th to 20th.
Outfielder Mike Daniel, a 7th round selection by the Nationals in 2005, is hitting .309, with 6 home runs and 35 RBIs entering Tuesday's action. Mike leads the Suns with 15 doubles and was named Player of the Month by the Washington Nationals for the month of April. Daniel, who was a New York-Penn League All-Star in 2006 with Single-A Vermont, hit .300 with 5 home runs, 22 RBI and 7 doubles in 24 games in April.
Left-handed Pitcher Cory VanAllen, selected in the 5th round in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, was named to the All-Star team after posting a respectable 3.92 ERA through his first nine starts. VanAllen has only walked 4 batters while striking out 42 in 43.2 innings-pitched and did not walk a batter in his first 21.1 innings of the season. VanAllen struck out the first 8 batters he faced in a no-decision back on Saturday, April 28th.
