Bester Elementary students have been striving to earn four awards. The following awards were won during the month of April. Congratulations to all winning classrooms! Silver Spoon went to Mrs. Crabtree & Mrs. Wolfensberger's Class the week of April 9-13. Mrs. Mason & Mrs. Hatcher's class received the award on April 15-20 and Ms. Belin & Mrs. Griffin's class received the same award the week of April 22-27. The Golden Trash Can Award went to Mrs. Swindell & Ms. Huffer's class April 9-13. Ms. Belin & Mrs. Taksa's class received the award the week of April 15-20 and Mrs. Tresler & Mrs. O'Leary's class received the same award the week of April 22-27.
The 20th annual Elementary Principal's Citizenship Award Program was held Thursday, May 24, 2007 at North Hagerstown High School. Students eligible for this award were selected by the principal of the school, or by a committee appointed by the principal. Each school will have a select number of 5th grade students who will be recognized for outstanding citizenship.

The Smithsburg Middle School 8th Grade Band participated in the Music Showcase Festival at Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 19, 2007, earning a 1st place rating of silver. Band teacher Michelle Benda said, "I'm very proud of all my students. They played very, very well! It was a wonderful experience for all of us." After the competition, the students were able to enjoy time in the amusement park at Hershey.
