Wisdom of a Furry Friend: My Name Is Emma
Wisdom of a Furry Friend
My Name Is Emma
Hello. My name is Emma and I am a Bull Terrier mix. I am living at the Humane Society of Washington County. I came here as a stray when I arrived here I was pregnant. I had my puppies 4 months ago and they have all gone to wonderful homes. Now I am looking for a permanent home.
Everyone says that I am a sweet girl. I love people and I love to cuddle. If you would like to share your home with a gentle and loving dog then you want me. You can come to meet me at the Humane Society of Washington County. Just ask to see Emma.
I thought I should mention that now that summer is on its way all pet owners need to remember to take care of us during the warmer weather months ahead. I know it is fun to take us along when you go out for the day but please do not leave us in the car. It doesn't take much sunlight shining into the car to make it dangerously hot. Even when the temperature outside is cool your car can heat up to 120 degrees very quickly, even with the windows rolled down. So please don't take us along if you plan to keep us in the car for any length of time.
That doesn't mean we want to stay home. No siree. We want to go for walks with you and enjoy the wonderful weather, too. But make sure that when we are out playing or walking that we don't over do it. We shouldn't overexert ourselves or we might get overheated.
Please remember to take water along for us when we walk with you. We get thirsty just like you do. And don't let us drink from puddles. There could be dangerous bacteria or antifreeze in the puddle.
Antifreeze is very dangerous and can be fatal if we drink it. It tastes sweet and is very tempting for us to drink it when we get thirsty but you need to make sure we don't ever drink any of it.
Did you know that we could get sunburned too? It's true, especially if we have light skin and hair. And remember, if you get us shaved for the summer, our skin can be sun burned much more easily. So always provide us with a place to get out of the direct sun light. And make sure it has good ventilation. A sealed enclosure can heat up very quickly and can be very dangerous for us.
We want to enjoy the summer with you so remember to take us along. Just be careful and make sure you are looking out for us when we do join you on your outings.
Thanks for reading about me and don't forget to come by and ask for Emma. I would love to go home now.
