Schools in the Spotlight

Smithsburg Middle School. Leopard's Pride - 3 on 3 Charity Basketball Tourney. The champions are: Grade 6 Winners: Ryan Bolton, Bryan Tracey, and Matt Stevens. Grade 7 Winners: Rachel Poffenberger, Joe Mendy, and Danielle Harbaugh. Grade 8 Winners: Jesse Lombardi, Dylan Ianaro, and Devonte Smith.
The tournament was a double elimination format including over 90 teams from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The tournament helped raise $591.00 that will be donated to the Smithsburg Veterans Park Fund.
Students from the Washington County Public Schools participated and placed at the twenty-fourth annual MathCounts competition held Saturday, February 24, 2007 at E. Russell Hicks Middle School. Fifty-six 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from Allegany and Washington County Middle Schools competed in the event. In team competition, three WCPS teams placed, including Springfield Middle School at 2nd Place; Boonsboro Middle School at 3rd Place; and E. Russell Hicks Middle School at 5th Place. In terms of individual results, two WCPS students placed. These were Connor Haines, 2nd Place, Springfield Middle School, and Graylon Wright, 4th Place, Springfield Middle School.
