Boys & Girls Club Volunteer Honored

Boys & Girls Club Volunteer Honored

For exemplary service to local children, Julie Rohm has received the Sylvan M. Cohen Community Service Award. Rohm, the assistant general manager of the Valley Mall, also serves as a volunteer and board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.
"Julie has been an awesome advocate for local children through her involvement with the Boys & Girls Club," said Buck Browning, director of development for the Boys & Girls Club. "She has been involved in just about every aspect of our program from summer camp to fundraising to field trips. She has truly been a friend to local children."
Rohm's accomplishments with the Boys & Girls Club include chairing the ONE Campaign Annual Appeal Committee, chairing the Silent Auction Committee, sponsoring Youth of the Year dinners, implementing new outreach programs, and volunteering at numerous functions.
"Our children are fortunate to have Julie looking out for them," added Browning. "She is what every mission driven organization needs, someone who isn't afraid to commit to taking on responsibility and following through with that commitment".
Sylvan Cohen is the founder of the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust known as PREIT. PREIT operates shopping malls including the Valley Mall in Hagerstown and the Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick. The Sylvan M. Cohen Community Service Award was created in memory of the former PREIT chairman. Cohen set a high standard of community service working with the United Way, University of Pennsylvania Medical and Law Schools, and the National conference of Christians and Jews.
PREIT made a $1000.00 contribution to the Boys & Girls Club in Rohm's name for her outstanding dedication and service. The Boys & Girls Club operates ten programs and is a member agency of the United Way of Washington County.
