Flounder are Biting Well
The speaker for our October meeting will be IGFA record holder, Barclay Shepard. He will be talking about catching speckled trout, especially at the Hot Ditch. Kayak Kevin will be speaking at our November meeting. I will be talking at our December meeting on deep-dropping off of Virginia.
The next PSWSFA fishing trip has been booked. We will be live baiting big king mackerel on the Miss Hatteras Nov. 26. The first 20 anglers paid up will be our crew. Cost will be $170 per angler. Get with me to book your spot.
Oct. 3, the Striker fished down around the Triple 0s. They caught 10 tuna and a nice dolphin. They left the fish biting.
Oct. 2, I ran out to the Chesapeake Light Tower with Tricia. She caught some Jack Crevalle, which gives her 5 different citations for the year. I'm going to have to come up with something to get her six and her first Expert Award. She said something about dumping me and wanting to go spot fishing with Charles Southall.
Oct. 1, Jack Lawson wire-lined the CBBT. They brought in 12 flounder weighing between 4.5 and 8.5 pounds.
Oct. 1, Gary Donaldson and Willie Goodman fished Back River in their kayaks. They caught speckled trout to 20 inches and puppy drum to 27 inches.
Sept. 24-26, I spent 3 days fishing for marlin in Venezuela with Dr. John Graves as part of his study of white marlin. It was supposed to be 4 days of fishing but the airline stranded us in Atlanta for a day. Fishing was great. We caught lots of white marlin, good numbers of sails, and I registered my first grand slam with a 350 LB blue marlin that took me over 1.5 hours to catch on the white marlin gear. I can't wait to go back.
Sept. 24, Barclay Shepard and Matt Rinck fished Poqouson Flats. They caught puppy drum and speckled trout. The catch of the day was Matt's 6 LB 14 oz speck.
Sept. 24, Byrd Holloway fished the Rappahannock River. They caught about 200 spot with the largest being just under a pound.
Sept. 22, Jack Lawson and Dr. Bob Allen wire-lined the CBBT. They managed to catch 3 keeper flounder.
