Congratulations to Emily Seifarth, Ashley Spinks, and Cody Waltz at Smithsburg Middle School for their completion of the "25 Book Challenge" program. They have read 25 books and over one million words this year. Way to go Emily, Ashley, and Cody!
Boonsboro High School's Youth Apprenticeship Carpentry students have been busy this year with the design and construction of a shed and a greenhouse/shed combo. The students were responsible for designing the buildings as well as constructing all the components of each building.
The member of the Clear Spring FFA recently participated in the Maryland FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event in Timonium, Maryland. The FFA members demonstrated their knowledge and skills. When the scores were tallied, the Clear Spring FFA members came out on top.
The Youth Authors Contest is sponsored by the Washington County Reading Council and the State of Maryland International Reading Association Council (SoMIRAC). This year Washington County had three winners at the state level. Anna Baldasarre, an 8th grader at Smithsburg Middle, won 1st place for her short story "Thanksgiving in Ohio". Elizabeth Kramer, an 8th grader at Northern Middle, won 1st place for her poem "Your Bridge". Kate Sweeney, a 6th grader at Northern Middle, won 2nd place for her poem "My Hero". A banquet to honor the contest winners will be held on Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Four Points/Sheraton in Hagerstown. Author Chris Crutcher will be the guest speaker.
