Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives!
Building a Home Without A Hammer?

Yes, it is possible for many of us to help build a Habitat home without ever touching a hammer. Not everyone can wield a hammer, but we can help in another way. Now, through January, is our Annual Fund Drive and your monetary support is greatly needed and appreciated.
It is hard to imagine families living in substandard conditions here in our community. But it is true! Many live in decaying buildings...rotting floor boards, leaking roofs, no running water, no heat, terrible surroundings and overcrowded conditions. Maryland has a housing problem! Inexpensive housing is needed. This is true of our county, also. Together, you and Habitat, can address this critical problem of crowded, unsafe, inadequate housing for those living below the poverty level. With the concern and generosity of people like you, together we can make it possible for these families to find new hope. Together we can make home ownership possible.
Habitat for Humanity works on the following principles:
* Contributions of money and in-kind donations of materials, services and land primarily fund Homes.
* Homes are built primarily with volunteer labor and the "sweat equity" of the approved applicant for home ownership. The applicant's family must contribute 500 hours of labor with Habitat for Humanity before taking title to the home.
* Habitat sells the homes at no profit and offers a zero interest mortgage on the home. Payments from the homeowners are used to build more homes.
Let's work together in partnership to meet the housing challenge in our community. This way we will be able to providing decent, affordable housing to low-income families who pledge work hours in return for loans that enable them to purchase a home they could not otherwise afford.
Please send what you can. Your contribution, of any amount, will help Habitat for Humanity of Washington County to continue its mission.
And, remember, it is also a way to reduce your tax-burden if you make your gift during this calendar year. Donations may also be given in memory of a loved one, in honor of a joyous event, or as a Christmas, Hanukkah or other gift for that person who truly "has everything."
Yes, even though you may not "swing a hammer" you can help provide a home for some family. Every gift you send will make a difference! And for that we thank you! Mail contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County, 20 South Prospect St., Hagerstown, MD 21740. For more information contact Sherry Brown Cooper at 301-791-9009.
