Schools in the Spotlight

Winter Street Elementary- A rededication ceremony will be part of a 50th Year Celebration at Winter Street Elementary School on Saturday, December 17 from 1-3PM. The rededication ceremony will kick off the event, followed by tours of the school, including displays of school archives. Light refreshments will be served. Students, alumni, past and present staff, local dignitaries and the community are all invited and welcome to attend. Anyone interested in helping with the event, or seeking more information, should contact Mariam Robins at 301-766-8439.
A recently completed food drive at Sharpsburg Elementary School produced more than 350 pounds of canned and non-perishable foods that were donated to the South County Food Banks in Boonsboro and Dargan. Fifth grade students were responsible for collection of donations, which came from students and staff, parents and members of the community.
Springfield Middle School collected and sent boxes of school supplies earlier t his month to the Lafayette Parish school system in Louisiana, hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Students, staff and parents donated paper, pens and pencils, notebooks and binders, markers, crayons and glue, and other school essentials to help the school get back to normal operations. PSI in Williamsport donated boxes for the supplies, and Tim Federline drove a D.M. Bowman truck to Louisiana to deliver the supplies.
