Wisdom From a Furry Friend: Miss Bert and Miss Ernie
Wisdom From a Furry Friend
Miss Bert and Miss Ernie
Hello. We are Miss Ernie and Miss Bert. We are six years old and are a mix of a rare breed of cat known as a Turkish Van. We have quite an interesting heritage, being descended from a breed of cat from the Lake Van region in Turkey. We are known for distinct coloration of an all-white body with color on our head and tail. We love water and swimming and our coat is perfect for doing just that. Now, we are mixed with another breed of cat so some of our traits are not as dominant as they would be in a pure bred Turkish Van but we are still beautiful and very regal.
We have been together a long time. Our owners were moving and could not take us along so now we are staying at the Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC). We miss having a home of our own and we hope someone will see us and want to take us home. There is a 2 for 1 special at the HSWC so we could both go home together for the adoption fee for one of us! What a great deal, don't you think? - Two cats to love you unconditionally for the cost of adopting just one.
You know, a pet is a lifetime commitment. The folks at the HSWC understand that sometimes things happen that make it difficult to take care of a pet. In response to some of life's financial challenges the HSWC has programs available to help Washington County residents care for their beloved pet and keep that pet in the home. There are spay and neuter programs called SNIP and SNAP, there is a Pet Food Bank, a program to help senior citizens adopt and care for a pet called Silver Lining for Seniors, a reduced adoption fee program to help senior pets (those over 5 years of age) find a home with a senior citizen (someone that is over 55) called Seniors for Seniors, and the Animal Health Voucher Program that helps the dogs and cats of eligible individuals to be seen by a participating veterinarian and receive inoculations for an array of preventable diseases. To find additional information about all of the programs offered by the HSWC visit their website at www.hswcmd.org or call their offices at 301 733 2060.
If you would like to meet us please come see us at the shelter. We are at 13011 Maugnasville Road in Hagerstown, Maryland and the shelter's hours are on their website. Or you can call at 301-733-2060. You can see us and all of the adoptable pets on the HSWC's website and click on the Petango icon. We are all there to see and we are waiting for you to come meet us. I think you will fall in love if you come. We are all wonderful and just want to be loved. Can't you help us find our forever homes? See you soon.
