BFFs share love of animals

BFFs share love of animals

Hagerstown, MD: A young girl's love for animals resulted in two donations for the Humane Society of Washington County and inspired her long time best friend Jessica to help homeless animals. When Maree, last name withheld at the request of parents, celebrated her 8th birthday she asked for items for the homeless animals at the shelter. Those items plus a cash donation were delivered to the shelter by Jessica, Jessica's mother Jennifer and brother Jake.
In addition to receiving goodies for the animals at her birthday party, Maree and BFF Jessica devised a way to raise money for the shelter. Using their artistic talents, the two girls drew pictures on 3 x 5 cards and sold them at their church, Otterbein United Methodist Church. The result was a $26.98 monetary donation for the animals.
"This is a unique fundraiser especially for two eight year old girls to undertake," said Paul Miller, Executive Director at the HSWC. "These young ladies are obviously very artistically talented." The girls' parents are very pleased with their little girls. "I am so proud of Jessica and Maree" said Jennifer. Maree's mother is in agreement. "I think the girls should be spotlighted for their efforts," said Lara.
Both girls attend Lincolnshire Elementary School. Marre plans to attend veterinary school in the future.
The Humane Society of Washington County is located at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown, MD. Visit our website, www.hswcmd.org, for information on animal related issues, directions to the shelter and information about our programs and services.
