Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau Welcomes the Governor of Leningrad Region, Valery Serdyukov; Washington County Public Schools Hosts Group in Hagerstown During Maryland Visit

(Hagerstown, MD): A Delegation from the Leningrad Region of Russia is touring Maryland. The Governor of the Leningrad Region, Valery Serdyukov spent some time with members of his delegation visiting Hagerstown. The group was hosted by Washington County Public Schools.
Part of the tour of the area included a visit to the Downtown Hagerstown Visitor Welcome Center. Governor Serdyukov was welcomed by Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Tom Riford.
Through an interpreter, Governor Valery Serdyukov spoke with Riford about his impressions of Hagerstown, and of Maryland. Riford spoke about the county's national and state parks, attractions, museums, and tourism industry. "Washington County always welcomes visitors. As the first Washington County in the United States out of thirty-one Washington Counties, we welcome the first Governor of Leningrad to ever visit Hagerstown," said Riford.
Governor Serdyukov complimented the peacefulness and cleanliness of Hagerstown.
The group was also visiting City Park, and other sites. The group ate lunch at Bulls and Bears Restaurant, and also toured the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, and the Monocacy National Battlefield. The Leningrad Delegation left Hagerstown to visit a horse farm in Howard County.
Washington County Public Schools has a relationship with the Leningrad Region. Last year, the Superintendent of Washington County Public Schools Dr. Elizabeth Morgan, visited the Leningrad Region. The visit was part of the Maryland Sister State Program, and educational representatives attended an international youth forum in Russia.
