American Red Cross Introduces New Local "Heroes"
Washington County to Kickoff "Heroes for the ARC" Fundraising Campaign

Hagerstown, MD, March 3, 2010 - For more than 90 years, the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross has been a hero for thousands of people in our community, lending aid during times of disaster, seeing to the welfare of military families and providing citizens with lifesaving CPR and first aid skills. Now members of our community are stepping forward to be "Heroes" for the American Red Cross, each pledging to raise $1000 to keep the vital services of the Red Cross alive and well in Hagerstown, Washington County.
Please join us as we kickoff the "Heroes for the American Red Cross" campaign with a breakfast to introduce and honor this year's "Heroes". The breakfast will be held March 3, at 8:30 am at the Red Cross Headquarters building 1131 Conrad Court, Hagerstown, MD and is sponsored by Leiters' Fine Catering.
"Heroes for the American Red Cross" is a grassroots campaign in which local business people, school groups, church groups, civic clubs, and individuals pledge to raise $1000 for the local Red Cross chapter. This year, the Washington County has set its sights on raising $50,000 during the campaign. The funds will be used to support Red Cross services, such as disaster relief, assistance for fire victims, emergency military communications, first aid and CPR training and disaster preparedness information for our community. All money raised will support your neighbors in Washington County.
"Heroes for the American Red Cross" is a four-week campaign. The Heroes often come up with fun and unique fundraisers, so be on the lookout for them with in the next 28 days. Please support the Heroes when you see them in the community.
Governed by volunteers and supported by community donations, the American Red Cross is a nationwide network of local chapters and Blood Services regions dedicated to saving lives and helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. The Washington County Red Cross chapter, led by volunteers and 9 employees mobilizes relief to families affected by more than 108 disasters, trains almost 8,000 people in lifesaving skills and exchanges more than a 89 emergency messages for U.S. military service personnel and their families each year. The Red Cross is the largest supplier of blood and blood products and collects 8,700 units of blood for area hospitals, also assists victims of international disasters and conflicts at locations worldwide.
