Nationwide Voluntary Cat Food Recall Initiated

Hagerstown, MD: Nationally recognized pet food manufacturer Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of nearly all of its dry cat food on May 21, 2009. Consumers who have purchased affected products are being advised to immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. Nutro dry and wet dog food, wet cat food and cat and dog treats are not affected.
Natural Choice Complete Care and Nutro Max dry cat foods with "Best if Used By Dates" between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010 are being recalled in the United States and ten other countries. The recall is a result of incorrect levels of two nutritional supplements, zinc (under-supplemented) and potassium (over-supplemented), in the product. A United States-based supplier made the error
Although no consumer complaints have been received Nutro is cautioning cat owners to be aware of any potentially problematic symptoms such as reduction in appetite or refusal to eat and vomiting and/or diarrhea. Cats experiencing any of these symptoms and any cat that is pregnant and has consumed the cat food should be seen by a veterinarian.
