Fish News: The "Flounder Bowl" Fishing Tournament

Fish News
The "Flounder Bowl" Fishing Tournament

The Peninsula Salt Water Sport Fisherman's Association will host a fishing tournament called the "Flounder Bowl". This event will allow Virginia's best flounder anglers to come together and compete for bragging rights for the year. They will also be competing for a $3,000 first place prize.
The Flounder Bowl is scheduled for June 27 with a captains meeting at 6pm on June 26. The tournament will be held out of Dare Marina (www.daremarina.com). Boats will be allowed to fish from any port but the fish must be brought to Dare Marina for weigh in.
This will be a team tournament with an entry fee of $100 per boat with up to 4 anglers. Additional anglers will cost $25 each. Winners will be determined by the combined weight of a team's top three fish. Prize money will be paid through six places.
In addition to the top six teams, there will be a "Lucky Dog" winner. Teams not placing in the tournament will be entered into a drawing for an additional cash prize giving everyone a chance to win.
Teams will be given the option of entering a "Big Fish Calcutta" for an additional $100. This is a 100% payout to the team, which has entered the Calcutta, with the single heaviest fish. Depending on the number of boats entering the Calcutta, this payout has the potential to be greater than the first place prize money.
Other special prizes for the tournament will be a prize for the heaviest flounder caught by a child and a prize for the heaviest flounder caught by a woman in the tournament.
There is a special Sponsors' Challenge Division where our tournament sponsors can enter a team into the tournament for an entry fee of $200. These teams will compete in the regular tournament and will also compete for a Sponsors' Trophy, which the winning sponsor will get to keep until next year's tournament.
The sponsors entry fees are funding the $3,000 guaranteed first place prize as well as free food and drink for participants at both the captains meeting and the weigh in. Sponsors are also providing various prizes, which will be given away at the weigh in. Each team will be given four door prize tickets for a chance at winning these donated items. The tournament sponsors are really supporting the local fishing community and we encourage you to support the sponsors.
Numerous sponsors have already paid the entry fee for their tournament teams but we do not know who most of those teams are yet. A few which are known, include Paige II Charters with Capt. Craig Paige, Virginia Beach Contender with Capt. Max King, and the Healthy Grin will be in the Sponsors Challenge. The defending champion sponsor is Grafton Fishing Supply and Seafood. They are entering a team again this year. Capt. Jorj Head led their winning team in last year's tournament. Jorj is this year's tournament organizer and does not know if he will be too busy to fish in this year's event.
This is your chance to fish with and against some of the best flounder anglers in the state. There will be food, drink, music, and multiple chances to win. Come on out and join the fun!
