Clear Spring High School FBLA Members Attend State Convention; Two Headed to Nationals

Clear Spring High School FBLA Members Attend State Convention; Two Headed to Nationals

Hagerstown, MD (April 16, 2009): Eighteen members of the Clear Spring High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attended the 53rd annual FBLA State Leadership Conference at the Hunt Valley Marriott on March 26-28, 2009.
Clear Spring members did well in the competitive events that were part of the conference and two members earned trips to the national convention in Anaheim, CA, in June. Zach Valko placed first in Business Communications and Cassandra Suder placed third in Introduction to Business Communications in the state competition. Other Clear Spring participants were:
Chapter Scrapbook- Led by Samantha Owens- 3rd place
Accounting I- Lakyn Sanders- 4th place
Business Ethics- Team of Maria Jarvis and Kristin Resh- 10th place
Business Math- David Bright- 4th place
Business Presentation- Team of Lauren Staley and Dylan Baker
Economics- Amy Poet- 8th place
Emerging Business Issues- Team of Aaron Hetzer, Zach Uchima and
Amanda Fawley- 3rd place; team of Kelsey Capezuto, Kelli Humbertson and Samantha Owens- 4th place
Public Speaking I- Ann Savage- 7th place
Nearly 850 student members and advisors attended the state convention, highlighted by keynote speaker Ty Howard, who presented, "The Eight Essentials of True Greatness." Workshops for the students focused on such topics as banking, law, insurance and becoming an entrepreneur.
In other conference news, Karen Teach, advisor to the Clear Spring High School chapter, was re-elected as secretary to the state FBLA board of directors for another term. Ms. Teach has just finished her first year in office.
