Rosalind A. Martin receives Human Service Individual Partnership Award

Ms. Rosalind Martin, Assistant Director for Family Investment for the Washington County Department of Social Services, was recognized at the Transportation Association of Maryland Annual Conference in Ocean City, MD October 20-23, 2008. Ms. Martin received the first annual Human Service Individual Partnership Award.
Ms. Martin was nominated by Kevin Cerrone, Washington County Transportation Director, for her continuous commitment to Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) customers of Washington County and for helping them with their transportation needs. In 2001, the Washington County Department of Social Services and the County Commuter launched a transportation system designed to transport low-income families with children from their homes to daycare to work and the reverse at the end of their workday. Ms. Martin was dedicated in researching the areas where transportation needs were the greatest, and assessing the type of transportation needed; the Job Opportunity Bus Shuttle took off and continues to thrive.
Since 2001, WCDSS has placed 1,283 TCA customers into employment. Over 15 percent of those employed TCA customers made use of the shuttle. Ms. Martin's expertise and knowledge about the needs of the community has allowed for over 200 different individuals to use the shuttle. In fiscal year 2008, there were 8,502 trips to jobs and 3,145 trips to child care homes or facilities.
Ms. Martin is committed to excellence and has worked many hours with the Washington County Transit and other community partners to ensure that Washington County transportation initiatives are recognized. Her ability to go above and beyond is recognized by not only her co-workers at WCDSS but other community partners as well. Our agency is truly honored to have an employee such as Ms. Martin on our team.
The Washington County Department of Social Services is a field office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources under the direction of Governor Martin O'Malley, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, and Secretary Brenda Donald.
