The dumpster program will run Monday, April 16, 2007 through Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the intersection of South Potomac Street and West Memorial Boulevard (across from Bester Elementary School). The following items are NOT permitted: tires, batteries, paint, gasoline, diesel, bio-hazards, chemical waste, or any other hazardous waste. Also, items that contain freon such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers. Further, the dumpsters are not to be used by commercial haulers.
"If City residents are bringing metal items, we ask that you keep these items separate," stated Hagerstown's Public Works Manager Eric Deike. "The metal items are placed in a separate pile and we haul that material to be recycled."
Eric Deike went on to say that individuals are not encouraged to place recyclable items in the dumpsters since the City currently has a separate program for those types of items. Information on the recyclable program can be obtained by calling 301-739-8577 x106. Any inquiries on the dumpster program should be directed to the Public Works Office by calling 301-739-8577 x178.
