County Solid Waste Sites Offer Free Recycling of Holiday Items

HAGERSTOWN, MD (December 20, 2012) -- Washington County residents can recycle Christmas trees at no charge at County Solid Waste Department facilities. Clean Christmas trees with all lights, ornaments, and nails removed, will be accepted daily Dec. 26, 2012 through Jan. 31, 2013, excluding holidays.
Christmas Tree Recycling Locations
Trees are accepted at the following locations:
- Forty West Landfill, one mile west of Huyett's Crossroads off Route 40 on Earth Care Road (Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.)
- Greensburg Convenience Center, 13125 Bikle Road
(Tuesday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
- Hancock Convenience Center, 6502 Hess Road
(Tuesday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
- Kaetzel Convenience Center, 2926 Kaetzel Road
(Tuesday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
- Dargan Convenience Center, 2201 Dargan School Road
(Tuesday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
A two-tree limit will be observed.
Residential Electric Wiring and Holiday Lights Accepted at the Forty West Landfill
Do not throw away tangled, frayed or burned-out holiday lights this year! The Washington County Recycling Department is offering free recycling of electrical decorative lights and associated extension cords. The wiring will be accepted regardless of condition, age or manufacturer. Additional acceptable wiring items include power cords, telephone cords and computer cables. Take advantage of the newest no-charge recycling option for Washington County residents. Please note that the listed items will only be accepted at the Forty West Landfill.
