Hagerstown, MD (January 27th, 2012) - Washington County's budget presentation has been recognized as outstanding by the national body representing government Financial Officers.
In the regular meeting of the Washington County Board of County Commissioners on January 24th, Commissioners' President Terry Baker presented the 2012 Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation to Budget and Finance Director Debra Murray, and members of the department staff.
GFOA awarded Washington County Government its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Fiscal Year 2012 budget, and states the award represents a significant achievement, reflecting the commitment of the Commissioners and staff in meeting the highest principles in government budgeting. This is the eighth consecutive year the office has received the GFOA award.
To receive this honor, nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentations must be met. The budget also must demonstrate how well it serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications tool.
Budget and Finance Staff Recognized
As Debra Murray accepted the award on behalf of the Budget and Finance Department, she praised staff for their persistent work in ensuring the County Budget is prepared in accordance with the guidelines.
Murray's Department was also presented with a Commissioners' Certificate of Merit for continued excellence in budget preparation and presentation.
GFOA is a professional organization serving 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA award program is the only one of its type in governmental budgeting. Visit www.gfoa.org for more information.
