The Board of Washington County Commissioners (BCC), the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC), and the City of Hagerstown will participate in Economic Development Week from October 24th through October 28th. As Economic Development Week will recognize the partnerships that create jobs and encourage investment in Maryland's communities, many activities will be taking place in Hagerstown, Washington County and across the State.
The week will begin on Monday, October 24th in Western Maryland at the Rocky Gap Lodge in Flintstone. Garrett, Allegany, and Washington Counties have partnered with the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland to host the "kickoff" event featuring speakers Secretary Christian S. Johansson of the MD Department of Business & Economic Development and Donald C. Fry of the Greater Baltimore Committee.
On Tuesday, October 25th, the BCC will issue an Economic Development Week Proclamation and will tour local business Cinetic Landis Corp., a global leader in the manufacture of precision grinding systems. In addition, the BCC plans to discuss the final development of a Pad-Ready Site Commercial Stimulus Program, which will assist in taking sites in an undeveloped state to the level of being ready for construction.
Also on Tuesday, the City of Hagerstown Mayor and City Council will issue an Economic Development Week Proclamation and will host a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the new Bright Eyes Day Care facility at 10:30AM at 1145 Omega Court in Hagerstown. According to City of Hagerstown Economic Development Manager Jill Estavillo, the project represents a $963,000 investment in the community, will create 10 new jobs this year, and is expected to grow to more than 30 jobs in future years as the facility reaches full enrollment capacity.
On Friday, October 28th, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Baltimore District Office, is holding a Small Business Resource Day at the University System of Maryland - Hagerstown from 11AM-2PM. This is an open house showcasing programs and services that can help with the development and growth of small businesses. This free event will feature representatives from Federal, State and Local Government Organizations who will provide attendees with timely information and assistance. To attend, contact Arnette Carter at 410.962.6195 ext. 338 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Economic Development Week is a wonderful way to recognize the positive benefits economic development provides to the citizens of Washington County and the State of Maryland," said EDC Executive Director Timothy R. Troxell, CEcD. "Whether it is showcasing past successes, creating new programs, or discussing future challenges and opportunities for the region, economic development plays an important part in nearly everyone's life."
