Commissioners appoint department directors

As part of its regular meeting on September 13th, the Washington County Board of County Commissioners appointed two long-time staff members as Department Directors.
Stephanie Stone, Director if the Community Partnership for Children and Families, the Washington County Local Management Board (LMB) was appointed Director of the Department of Health and Human Services, replacing George William Sonnik, who retired on June 30th.
Stone, who has worked for the County for 10 years, holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a Master's in Administration and Management. She was strongly recommended by the Governor's Office of Children, previously handled Human Resources responsibilities and was responsible for psychiatric counseling.
A Hagerstown native and graduate of South High, she has been married for 24 years to Douglas Stone and lives in Funkstown, The Stones have two sons, David, 21, a senior in chemical engineering at WVU, and Ben, 18, a sophomore at WVU in industrial engineering.
The Community Partnership/LMB works closely with the Governor's Office for Children, supervising state grant pass-through funds to non-profit community agencies.
Steve Goodrich was named Director of the Department of Planning and Zoning, where he has been a staff member for 32 years. Goodrich was Deputy Director of the department and had served as interim Department Director following retirement of Michael Thompson from the Director's post in June.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and certified to teach secondary school Social Studies with a concentration in Geography and Psychology. His appointment was recommended by two prior Planning Commission Chairs.
A native of Annapolis, Steve has been married for 23 years and the Goodrich family has two sons, ages 15 and 20. He worked for the City of Hagerstown prior to his employment as a Washington County planner.
