Public Meeting Set on Communications Tower

Public Meeting Set on Communications Tower

Washington County's Division of Public Works will hold a public information meeting on May 10th designed to gather citizen comment on a proposed communications tower to be located in the south county area. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. on that day, at Pleasant Valley Elementary School on Maryland Route 67 near Brownsville.
Director of Public Works Joe Kroboth said that the meeting will provide information about the tower and the site, which is the final location of 10 towers needed for the new interoperable Public Safety Radio Communications Network. Citizens will be allowed to speak at the meeting, he said, and may also give written comment on the proposed location at the meeting, or afterwards by email.
Results of a site test using a weather balloon will be presented, and details will be given on the communications system, which is designed to improve public safety radio communications between police, fire and emergency medical services.
A site near Sandy Hook was rejected in 2008 following comments from citizens, and several alternative sites were proposed. Final balloon tests were conducted this spring at locations off Valley Road.
For information, call the Public Works office at 240-313-2257.
