March 2010 Youth Meritorious Award

In its regular meeting on March 16th the Washington County Board of County Commissioners honored two students with the March 2010 Youth Meritorious Award, from nominations by the Community Partnership for Children and Families Community Outreach Committee.
Matthew Breakall of Clear Spring Middle School and Tiffany Arnett of Hancock Middle/Senior High School were honored.
Son of Paul and Cheryl Breakall, Matthew is an 8th Grade student at Clear Spring Middle and was nominated by Counselor Earl Meagher
Matthew is a very motivated and hard working student, has been on the Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll throughout middle school and has attained perfect attendance throughout his school career.
He has shown interest in volunteering. As a W.E.B. leader, Matthew mentors sixth graders adjusting to middle school. He has also done volunteer work at Maugansville Little League. Matthew shares his academic strengths by tutoring students in the Blazer Club after school program.
He enjoys sports and has played baseball, basketball and soccer competitively for a number of years. He also participates in chorus.
His teachers say Matthew's leadership, work habits and accomplishments are truly outstanding.
Tiffany Arnett, a 12th Grade Student at Hancock Middle/High School is the daughter of Kevin and Tina Unger, and was nominated by Ms. Anna Crawford.
Tiffany is an extremely hard worker who takes her time at her work and never gives up. She does extraordinary work for all her teachers and peers. During her 9th grade year, she was a peer tutor, vice president of the art club, a member of the drama club, a member of the scholar bowl, and part of friends of education. Tiffany has also received first place in an art show and received a distinguished MAP score.
In her 11th grade year, she became part of the National Honor Society and she was on the yearbook staff. Now in the 12th grade, she is in the student government.
Tiffany loves to strive for the best. She is not only involved in school organizations, but also volunteers outside of school. She loves helping children and volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club. She interacts well with younger as well as older generations.
Youth Meritorious Awards are designed to honor local students for academic and community excellence.
