Commissioners Honor Meritorious Youth

In its regular meeting on December 22nd, the Washington County Board of County Commissioners honored two outstanding students for academic and community leadership
Named Youth Meritorious Award winners for December 2009 were Jonathan Henesy and Zachary Robertson, both from Clear Spring Middle School.
Jonathan, son of Timothy and. Marianne Henesy is an 8th Grade Student at Clear Spring Middle and was nominated by Earl Meagher.
Jonathan is an academic success, as well as a highly motivated person. He has been on the Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll throughout his time in school. He is currently taking all merit classes. Jonathan has qualified to participate in the Johns Hopkins Talent Search because of his high scores on the Maryland School Assessment. He enjoys sports and has played soccer and basketball competitively for a number of years. He received the Best in Camp Award for both the soccer and basketball camps he attended this previous summer. Jonathan has shown interest in volunteering and community service by helping to paint and renovate his church. Additionally, he and a group of his peers raised $500.00 for the homeless during their participation in Project Citizen.
Jonathan's counselor describes him as a pleasure to have at Clear Spring Middle School and a perfect role model.
Zachary Robertson, son of Carl and Bev Witmer is also in the 8th Grade at Clear Spring Middle, nominated by Earl Meagher.
Zachary excels academically and athletically. He has been on the Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll many times during his time in Washington County Public Schools. He is currently taking all merit classes and spends time tutoring students after school. Aside from school, Zachary has been involved in many sports, which include soccer and baseball. He is also community-minded. He has done volunteer work at the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Department, the Maryland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Institute and the Finksburg Library. He also raised money for the Lombardi Cancer Center.
Teachers say Zachary shows great focus and motivation in all aspects of his life.
