Chambersburg Ballet to Present Nutcracker and Gift of the Magi with Live Orchestra

Chambersburg Ballet to Present Nutcracker and Gift of the Magi with Live Orchestra

CHAMBERSBURG, PA - The Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company (CBTC) will present 2 performances of the classic "Nutcracker Suite" and "The Gift of the Magi" on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 and 7 p.m. at the historic Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main St., Chambersburg. Both ballets will feature original scores and a live professional orchestra, and the Company's local dancers will be joined by professional guest artists. CBT's gifted young dancers, chosen by audition, range in age from 7 to 17 years old, and come from the entire region, from Chambersburg to as far away as Carlisle. Tickets can be purchased online at www.thecapitoltheatre.org or by calling the Theatre Box Office at 717-263-0202.
"The Gift of the Magi" was composed and choreographed by CBT Artistic Director Lavinia Reid, and retells the romantic Christmas story by O. Henry, in which a young couple each give their most precious possession to one another, and realize that their greatest gift is that of love.
Portraying the "Magi" couple will be professional guest artists Peter Doll and Kristin D'Addario, real-life sweethearts who met in 2007 while dancing and touring with the Miami City Ballet. Peter is the 26-year-old son of Reid, and began his training with his mother and aunt at the Ithaca Ballet. After further study at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, under the direction of Marcia Dale Weary, he won a full scholarship at the Miami City Ballet School, and danced with the Miami City Ballet for three seasons. He recently signed on to dance with the Suzanne Farrell Ballet in Washington, DC.
Dr. Dennis Ritz, CBT Music Director, orchestrated Ms. Reid's piano music for "Gift of the Magi". Reid's emotional, classically-based music has been skillfully scored by Dr. Ritz, to create a holiday gem that expresses the true meaning of the season. Ritz will conduct the twenty professional musicians from central Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC. who comprise the Ballet's live orchestra.
For tickets to the Ballet's Dec. 1 performances, call the Capitol Theatre Box Office at 717-263-0202 or visit www.thecapitoltheatre.org; for information about the Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company, call 717-709-1800.
