Two weeks of work make for one Ghoulishly Fun Night to help homeless Animals

Hagerstown, MD: When Judy Reese began celebrating Halloween twenty one years ago she had no idea it would become one of the neighborhood's most anticipated evenings. Nor did she think she was creating an event to benefit homeless animals. That is exactly what it has happened and on Tuesday November 1, 2011 she and her three Labrador retrievers, Harley D, UPS and Soft Tail, posed as they donated the proceeds from the annual event to the Humane Society of Washington County.
Judy's Howl-O-Ween Haunted House attracts brave visitors from miles around. Halloween 2011 was no disappointment as motorized ghouls swung from ropes and moaned and groaned. Children and adults alike braved the frightful menagerie to get their Halloween treats. The admission to the haunted house was an item for the homeless animals at the HSWC.
"I just love doing this," said Reese. "It is a lot of work but it is worth it when I see how much fun everyone is having and how much I am collecting for the shelter." Reese spends two weeks preparing. "I always schedule my vacation around this to accommodate all the work I put into it," she said. "This year I decorated the first week by myself and then the second week my sister Michelle Kerry, nephew Donovan Reese and his girlfriend Kristin all helped with the set up." She also had help from Brooke Kerry, Joe and Kelly Cottrill, Victoria Billman and her son Charles Reese.
Howl-O-Ween visitors brought cans of food, litter, blankets and various other items needed at the shelter. Reese also donated 30 bales of straw for the animals at the shelter.
