Washington County DSS employees provide Hurricane Irene shelter assistance

Seven employees from the Washington County Department of Social Services served as volunteer shelter managers and counselors from August 26 through August 28 at the Jewish Community Center in Owings Mills, MD during Hurricane Irene. Four hundred and twenty-five International Student Work Interns, primarily from Eastern Europe, who were working in Ocean City, MD were evacuated to this location during the hurricane. WCDSS employees managed the provision of meals, sleeping arrangements and other necessities for these students during their evacuation. On a visit to the shelter, Governor Martin O'Malley thanked the employees of Washington County DSS for their commitment to the residents of the State of Maryland.
